2026 English version

In short

  • No account, no ads, no third-party tracking or analytics.
  • Prayer times and qibla are calculated on your device; your precise location is never sent anywhere.
  • The app goes online to download recitations and Mushaf pages, fetch gold prices, list nearby mosques (an approximate location, only when you ask) and fetch a small settings file — with no identifier for you or your device.
  • The only personal data we receive is a message you write and choose to send via “Send feedback or a suggestion”.
  • Anonymous usage statistics once a day (aggregated numbers with no device identifier and no precise location) so we know what to improve; you can turn them off in Settings.

Rattilha is a Quran, azkar, prayer-times and qibla app that runs on your device. We do not require an account, we do not automatically collect personal data, and we do not send your data to any server of ours — the only exception is a message you write and choose to send us from “Send feedback or a suggestion” (section 4b). The app also sends anonymous, aggregated usage statistics that do not identify you, which you can turn off (section 4c).

1. Location

The app asks for location permission for one purpose: calculating prayer times and the qibla direction for where you are. The calculation happens entirely on your device, and the last location is stored inside the app only so times stay correct offline. Your precise location is never sent anywhere. You may deny the permission and pick your city manually.

Nearby mosques (optional): only if you tap “Show nearby mosques”, the app sends an approximate location (rounded to about 1 km) to the public OpenStreetMap service (overpass-api.de, or its public backup server maps.mail.ru when the first is busy) to fetch mosques around you, and caches the result on your device. Nothing else about you is sent with it. The “Open in Maps” button opens the maps app you choose, under that app’s own policy.

2. Data stored on your device

  • Settings (font size, reciter, calculation method, reminder times).
  • Bookmarks, last-read position, daily wird / khatma progress and the tasbih counter.
  • Recitation audio files you choose to download for offline listening (you can delete them from Settings at any time).
  • Mushaf pages you download (page fonts and data) for offline reading.
  • Zakat calculator inputs (the amounts and grams you enter, the currency, and the last gold and silver price) — saved so you find them next time you open the calculator, and never sent anywhere.

This data stays on your device and is deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data.

3. Internet access

The Quran text and azkar are bundled with the app and work offline. The app uses the internet to stream or download recitation audio from public recitation servers (such as verses.quran.com, mirrors.quranicaudio.com and everyayah.com). Like any website, those servers may log the requesting IP address under their own policies; we send them no information about you.

Mushaf (page view): when you open a page for the first time, or tap “Download the whole mushaf”, the app downloads the page font and data files from quran.com’s public servers and keeps them on your device so they work offline afterwards. No information about you is sent with them.

Zakat calculator: when you open the calculator (at most once a day) or tap “Refresh”, the app fetches the world gold and silver price from free public services (api.gold-api.com, exchange rates from open.er-api.com, and as a fallback cdn.jsdelivr.net and currency-api.pages.dev) to work out the nisab in your currency. The request carries no information about you and none of the numbers you enter; the calculation happens entirely on your device. Those services may log the IP address under their own policies, and you can enter the price yourself instead.

Extra hadith books (optional): only when you tap “Download” in the hadith library, the app downloads the book you choose (Sunan Abi Dawud, Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, Sunan an-Nasa’i, Sunan Ibn Majah or Muwatta Malik) from our server (rattilha.com/content/hadith/) — a small list of the books, then the book file itself — and keeps it on your device so it works offline afterwards. The request carries no information about you and no identifier for you or your device; ordinary server logs (such as the IP address) are rotated automatically by the host. You can delete downloaded books from the hadith library at any time.

Website build only: if you installed the app from rattilha.com (not Google Play), it fetches a small file (rattilha.com/download/version.json) at most once a day to see whether a newer version exists. The request carries no information about you; ordinary server logs (such as the IP address) are rotated automatically by the host. The Google Play build does not do this — it is updated through the store.

App settings (both builds): at most once a day the app fetches a small file (rattilha.com/api/config.json) with per-country Hijri date corrections (e.g. the start of Ramadan and Eid), short messages shown on the home screen, reminders for occasions (e.g. the Day of Arafah and Laylat al-Qadr), and the oldest supported version (if yours is older, the app asks you to update from the store). Your country is worked out on your device from the city you picked and is not sent with this request (only the country code is part of the anonymous statistics in section 4c, which you can turn off).

What this request sends: only the app version and edition (e.g. Rattilha/1.1.0 (play) — “play” for the Google Play build, “site” for the website build). Everyone on the same version sends the same value, so it does not distinguish your device or link it to you: no device or advertising ID, no account, no location. The server only increments daily totals (requests per day, and per version and edition) so we can roughly tell how many devices use the app and how many have updated; our counter stores no IP address, no identifier and no per-request record. The host’s ordinary server logs (which may include the IP address) are rotated automatically and are not used for this. Likewise, our website counts clicks on the “Download APK” button as a single daily total. You can turn all of this off in Settings (“Updates from rattilha.com”) — the app then makes no such request at all and keeps working normally on the Umm al-Qura calendar.

4. Notifications

Adhan, morning/evening azkar, daily wird and fasting reminders, and occasion reminders (which arrive with the settings file), are scheduled locally on your device using Android's alarm system and never pass through a server. The prayer-times widget only reads times stored on your device.

4a. Sharing

When you share a verse (as an image or text), the app opens Android's share sheet and you choose the destination app. Rattilha sends nothing by itself.

4b. “Send feedback or a suggestion” messages

From “More” or Settings you can send us a suggestion, a problem or your opinion of the app. The message is sent only when you tap “Send”, to our server (rattilha.com/api/feedback.php) over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Exactly what is sent: the message type (suggestion, problem or general feedback), its text, a way to reach you (email or phone number) only if you type one yourself — it is optional — the app version and edition, the Android version, and the device model (to help us understand the problem). The screen shows you this information before sending. Your location, device or advertising IDs and your settings are not sent.

We keep the message on our server so we can read it, reply and improve the app; we do not sell or share it with anyone, and we use the contact detail only to reply to your message. To stop spam, the server counts messages from each connection over the last hour using a hashed fingerprint of the IP address combined with a random value that changes every day; these fingerprints are deleted daily, and the IP address itself is never stored with the message or anywhere else. If you want your messages deleted, email us at the address in section 7 (with the contact detail you typed or part of the message so we can find it) and we will delete them.

4c. Anonymous usage statistics

To learn what is worth improving, the app sends at most once a day a small anonymous report about a past day to our server (rattilha.com/api/stats.php) over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). The report is built on your device from counters only. Exactly what is sent:

  • How many times each section of the app was opened (such as the Mushaf, azkar and prayer times), and how often some features were used (such as sharing as an image or text, finishing a khatmah, a memorisation session, the daily challenge, hundreds of tasbih, and adhan alerts).
  • General settings: theme, time format, font size, interface language, chosen reciter, prayer calculation method, whether alerts are on, and how many home-screen widgets are added.
  • Adhan delivery health: whether notifications are allowed, whether exact-alarm permission is on, and whether the adhan channel is on with sound.
  • The app version and edition, the Android version number, the country code only (e.g. EG) of the city you picked, the month the app was installed, how many of the last 7 days you opened the app (a number from 0 to 7), and whether the device is a test emulator.

Never sent: any device or advertising ID, the device model, your location or city name, anything you type, or which verses and surahs you read in detail.

The report is sent in the background without delaying any screen; if there is no connection it is retried on a later day, and reports not sent within 7 days are deleted from your device. Nothing in a report links it to another report or to a person. On our server we use the reports only to compute totals (such as the share of people using each section); we do not store the IP address with them, and we delete the reports themselves after at most 90 days so only the totals remain. We do not sell or share this data with anyone.

Turning it off: you can turn it off at any time in Settings (“Share anonymous usage statistics”); counting and sending then stop and anything not yet sent is deleted from your device. It also stops if you turn off “Updates from rattilha.com”.

5. What we don't do

  • We don't collect your name, contacts or photos, nor your email or phone number — unless you type them yourself in a feedback message so we can reply.
  • We use no tracking or advertising, and no third-party analytics SDKs (such as Firebase or Google Analytics); the anonymous usage statistics go to our own server only, as described in section 4c.
  • We don't sell or share any data with anyone.

If we ever add ads or any service that collects data, we will update this page first and explain what is collected and why.

6. Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal data from any user, including children. Any message a user chooses to send from “Send feedback or a suggestion” is handled as described in section 4b, and the anonymous statistics (section 4c) do not identify any user.
